Citi recently introduced a new free benefit for Platinum Select, Diamond Preferred and AT&T Universal Platinum card holders.
Cardmembers will now receive an automatic 10% credit in “Extra Cash” on all purchases. This credit is stored in a separate Extra Cash account that can be used to purchase merchandise, gift cards and travel. In addition, all new members will receive 100 bonus Extra Cash dollars upon enrollment.
How Extra Cash works
Members can apply these Extra Cash dollars towards purchases at the Extra Cash website (extracash.citi.com). Each item in the catalog has two components to its price: 1) the minimum in real dollars you must spend and 2) the maximum in Extra Cash you can apply towards the purchase. For instance, a $100 Macy’s gift card is available for $90 in real dollars + $10 in Extra Cash.
Most of the items available in the mall are overpriced, but there are over 70 gift card merchants, along with over 8000 hotel locations, that are eligible for Extra Cash discounts. If you have one of the eligible cards, you may as well check it out, as the benefit costs nothing to use.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Marriott Rewards, Marriott and Chase are offering up to 25,000 Bonus Points in addition to a Free Night Stay e-certificate when you apply for a new Marriott Rewards Visa.
25,000 Marriott points are enough for a 4-night Hotel Reward at a category 1 property using standard award redemption, while the Free Night Stay E-Certificate is valid for participating category 1-4 hotels and must be redeemed within 6 months of its date of issue.
In addition, you’ll earn 10 nights towards Elite status every year just for carrying the card, while earning 3 points for every $1 spent at Marriott locations and 1 point per dollar everywhere else. The annual fee is waived for the first year and is $30 for every year thereafter.
Marriott Rewards Visa application
If you’re a more frequent guest of Marriott, it may instead make sense to apply for the Marriott Rewards Premier Visa. Under the anniversary offer, it also provides the following benefits in addition to 25,000 bonus points:
- Free Night Stay e-cert every year
- 5 points for every dollar spent at Marriott locations
- 2 points for every dollar spent on airline, dining and rental car expenses
- 15 nights credit towards Elite status
- 2 for 1 Golf coupon
It does carry a slightly larger annual fee of $65, which is not waived for the first year.
